9 True Stories That Prove Real Life Is Scarier Than Horror Films

in Disgusting/Grab Bag/Racy/Weird/WTF by

We all watch those superb movies based on true events of mind-blowing people who did incredible things with their lives. From Schindler’s List to The Imitation Game, movies based on people who have done extraordinary things with their lives pull us in and seduce us with their chilling, thrilling, and god-like achievements during the most destitute of times.

And sometimes, like those based-on-real-life sports movies, they simply warm our hearts and make us cry tears of joy.

But, no one wants to think about the horror stories based on real life events. No one wants to think about those exorcism movies based on actual accounts.

But, the thing no one’s mind wants to entertain? The fact that, sometimes, real life is more horrifying than the movies we refuse to believe are true.

Below are the nine creepiest stories ever found across the internet that happened in real life to real, breathing people.

Make sure you turn your light on.

1. Children found 1.5 liters of human blood in the playground playhouse after being released for recess.

The house had been sprayed for pests on January 12th, 2012, just before school was due to open. But, when the school did open, it was a completely different story.

2. Edgar Allen Poe predicted the cannibalism of a man named “Richard Parker.”

Poe wrote and released The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket in 1838, which housed a story about three sailors that had to eat their friend, Richard Parker, because they needed to survive their shipwreck. Little did he know that, in 1884, three sailors would shipwreck and actually eat their friend, also named Richard Parker.

3. Edward Mordrake lived with his “devil twin” attached to the back of his head.

He was born with the face of his twin on the back of his skull, and while the face could not talk, it could cry and laugh separately from Mordrake. He killed himself at 23 after multiple doctors refused to remove it.

4. Distress signals featuring foreboding transmissions came from the SS Ourang and were picked up off the coast of Indonesia.

The last message was “All officers including captain are dead, lying in chartroom and bridge. Possibly whole crew dead…” Then, a message was received in Morse code that simply read, “I die.” When investigated, the entire crew was found scattered across the ship face up, eyes open, and staring at the sky.

5. A woman lived in a man’s home undetected for over a year.

The man installed security cameras because he suspected someone was stealing food from his kitchen. Then, when he played the footage back after a few days, he found a woman emerging from the cupboard every single night to take food.

6. Soldiers below the decks of the of the sinking ships at Pearl Harbor were trapped and left to starve.

These poor men were trapped in the decks of the sinking ships and, because the ship didn’t flood, they banged on the hull of the ship for over two weeks before the banging ceased altogether. Because of limitations of equipment, none of the soldiers that realized what the banging was could do anything about it.

7. A murderer in Munich, Germany hid in a family’s farmhouse attic for almost a week before emerging to kill them.

Dubbed “The Hinterkaifeck Murders,” this man killed the entire family with an ax after watching their every move for six entire days.

8. Heads literally exploded during the eruption of Mount Vesuvius.

Because the human skull is filled with an exponential amount of liquid, and when the town of Pompeii was flooded with superheated rock, gas, and mud, it caused many people’s body temperatures to skyrocket. Scientists have since figured out that this would have caused many people’s skulls to overheat too quickly, causing their skulls to explode.

9. There is a true-to-life Hannibal Lecter who is currently serving life in prison.

The kicker to this story is that, after posting an advertisement on a cannibal fetish website (oh, yes. That’s a thing.), he found a willing participant. The willing victim then went to Armin Meiwes’ home (the cannibal), let the man willingly chop off his penis, and bled to death in the tub while Meiwes pan-fried the goodies for himself.

If you can sleep tonight, you’re better than me. I’ll just be over here watching some comedy until I pass out with all the lights on.
