CONFIRMED: The Lizzie Borden House Is Absolutely Terrifying

in Grab Bag/Racy/Weird/WTF by

“Lizzie Borden took an ax and gave her mother forty whacks. When she saw what she had done, she gave her father forty-one.”

That creepy little folk song is based on Lizzie Borden’s life. In 1892, in the little town of Fall River, Massachusetts, Borden’s parents were found dead in their home with fatal ax wounds in their skulls. While the murderer is still unconfirmed to this day, many believe the murderer to have been their daughter, Lizzie.

But, the house is infamous today as one of the most haunted houses on the East Coast.

Even after a trial, where Lizzie was frequently caught in the middle of lies about the details of that fateful day, there was no physical evidence connecting her to the murders, so she was found not guilty and set free.

Many ghost hunters have investigated the home.

Going so far as to recite the fun little poem above.

And others have gotten jarring responses.

Many theories abound as to who really killed the Borden couple.

Like Lizzie’s Uncle, who had no alibi at the time of the murders.

Or the maid, who is rumored to have been Lizzie’s lover.

At any rate, plenty of people have personal documentation of the hauntings happening within the halls of Lizzie Borden’s childhood home.
