President Donald Trump achieved the impossible in November, celebrities from Oprah to Caitlyn Jenner, are now seeing the possibility of moving into the White House as a real possibility. The latest star to throw his hat in the ring is in none other than former wrestler and actor The Rock. That is right movie star Dwayne Johnson is set to follow in the footsteps of Arnold Schwarzenegger in making the leap from action films to politics.
According to GQ magazine Johnson said:
“A year ago, it started coming up more and more…There was a real sense of earnestness, which made me go home and think, ‘Let me really rethink my answer and make sure I am giving an answer that is truthful and also respectful.’ I didn’t want to be flippant—’We’ll have three days off for a weekend! No taxes!’”
In the video below Johnson answered same the question like this:
The idea of me being president one day has become a legit thing to some people. It is an overwhelming, positive, strong, ‘we want you to run for president’ and if I felt that I could step up to the plate, become a tremendous leader, and make a real difference and make change I would do it.
His popularity and likeability go without saying, but how would he go with actual policy?
Fellow celebrity Oprah recently said that she might consider running. Before Trump’s victory she thought you needed actual ‘experience’ to run, now she is believes otherwise. Caitlyn Jenner also believes that running for politics may be the only way to make real change for the trans community.
Ronald Reagan kicked off the tradition of performers becoming president, then there was Sonny Bono, and of course Trump had threatened to run for years and years, before he actually did it. Many people doubted he would ever pull it off. Perhaps as a direct result it is becoming quite common for celebrities to not only share their political views, but they are even being urged to step up and actually run.
A Trump presidency has shown us anything can happen.
