In the lovely country town of South Norwood, London there is a glow emanating from the gardens in an attempt to celebrate this holiday season. As your eyes catch the blue shimmering lights you wonder, could it be the North Star? Could It be the flashing fire of the Menorah? Could it even be Jesus himself?
As you get closer, you realize it is a statue holding….
A piece of chicken.
Apparently, the town of South Norwood is known for their barber shops and chicken restaurants so, of course, to pay homage to this booming business, a mannequin covered in tinsel and fairy lights, arms outstretched like Jesus, and a huge chicken leg in their right-hand hangs high for everyone to see.
Rose Bartless who erected the statue, whose name is “Sharon”, told the Standard:
“We live in a part of Southeast London that is a bit worse for wear, especially when it comes to our high street. Some locals have been saying that they don’t like how it is nearly all barbers and fried chicken shops. But I think we should be proud of the shops that we’ve got.”
Don’t worry you don’t have to stop in South Norwood to experience this holiday miracle; Sharon is viewable by all passing trains. So buy a ticket and celebrate your holiday with a little-fried chicken and a fresh haircut!
