Following the baseball field shooting this morning that has left House GOP Whip Majority Leader Steve Scalise in critical condition, Republican representative Claudia Tenney of New York received a spine-chilling email that intentionally targeted the rest of Congress and their lives.
The subject line of the email? “One down, 216 to go…”
In the body of the email, it questions Congress and their ability to see attacks like this coming. The sender of the email stated that when you strip away the lives of ordinary people and utilize it to pay off those who are wealthy, that this should be something they should expect.
“Did you NOT expect this? When you take away ordinary peoples very lives in order to pay off the wealthiest among us, your own lives are forfeit. Certainly, your souls and morality were lost long before. Good riddance.”
Their lives are forfeit.
That is the chilling line of the email that caused Tenney’s office to turn it over to authorities.
Tenney’s office made an official statement admitting to the fact that, while they get many threatening emails like this on a daily basis, this one was especially disturbing given this morning’s events and the current condition of Scalise in the hospital.
The shooter, who has been identified as James T. Hodgkinson of Bellevue, Illinois, died earlier today in the hospital from a gunshot wound resulting from the shooting this morning.
While Scalise is in critical condition, those around him say he will pull through.
So, what does this email mean for the rest of Congress?
