Caitlyn Jenner, 67, has spoken out about her reassignment surgery. Caitlyn, formerly Bruce came out as transgender just two years ago with a stunning cover shoot for Vanity Fair. With huge scrutiny Caitlyn Jenner knows how curious the media and general public is. She has written about her surgery in her memoirs, called The Secrets of My Life:
Of her penis she says it:
…has no special gifts or use for me other than what I have said before, the ability to take a whiz in the woods. I just want to have all the right parts. I am also tired of tucking the damn thing in all the time.
She then writes of her surgery which involved facial, breast, and now genital augmentation, she says:
…so all of you can stop staring. You want to know, so now you know. Which is why this is the first time, and the last time,
I will ever speak of it.
In what Jenner calls a “complex decision” according to Radar Online she also adds:
I am going to live authentically for the first time in my life. I am going to have an enthusiasm for life that I have not had in 39 years since the Olympics, almost two thirds of my life.
It is vitally important that mainstream figures who are transgender come out and share their experiences. It has taken much courage to take a stand. When Jenner says she now feels ‘wonderful’ and ‘liberated’ this is a powerful message to those in the same boat.
One of Bruce Jenner’s previous wives Linda Thompson gave an interview about Bruce’s true self tells of her shock and confusion when Jenner told her of his secret. Thompson says that Jenner told her about how he really identified as a woman, back when their child were very young. She also added it took counselling and time to understand that this is who Jenner really was and that she had to respect it.
