The world-famous actress has stepped out in a long line of people who have called out Ivanka Trump on her hypocritical, and silent, stance on women’s rights.
While Ivanka was attempting to insinuate that she was “working behind the scenes” with the likes of Planned Parenthood and other organizations who hold women’s rights in high esteem, Scarlett Johansson wasn’t buying the gold-plated chicken nuggets she was selling.
The actress has depicted her in a Saturday Night Live skit, where Ivanka was selling a perfume entitled Complicit. The tagline? “The fragrance for the woman that can stop all this… But won’t.”
Talk about taking a stance.
Johansson was speaking at the Women in the World Summit on April 6 and fired back at all of Ivanka’s silent insanity.
“It was really baffling. You can’t have it both ways. If you take a job as a public advocate, then you have to advocate publicly.”
But, she was not nearly finished. She then raised her voice about the issues of meeting behind closed doors.
“I thought to myself, ‘Well, that’s empowering. How old-fashioned, this idea that behind a great man is a great woman. What about being in front of that person or next to that person? … Powerful women often get concerned with this idea that they’re going to be seen in this unforgiving light. Screw that. It’s so uninspired and actually really cowardly. And I was so disappointed by that interview she gave yesterday.'”
She did make mention of how it must be a unique and strange experience for Ivanka to be in the position she’s in, and I suppose that’s Johansson’s version of “bless her heart,” but the infamous actress closed her speech by making a very solid point:
“She has an opportunity to make a big impact just by being vocal.”
Yes. That she does.
Let’s see if she will actually do it.
