Liza Minnelli has been in love several times in her 71 years. It has now been reported that she has left her home town of New York to be with piano player Michael Feinstein in LA. Feinstein is not only an entertainer, he is also gay and married to long-time partner Terrence Flannery.
This is not the first time Minnelli has been romantically linked to a gay piano playing entertainer. In 1967 she married Australian Peter Allen. It was rumored Minnelli once walked in on him when he was in bed with a man. Peter Allen is the subject of The Boy From Oz musical that chronicles his life. They divorced in 1974. Allen later died of an AIDS related illness.
Minnelli was also married to David Gest who denied rumors he was gay.
Radar also reported that a source has said of Minnelli’s latest infatuation with Feinstein has meant she has:
“…Left New York and all her friends behind after almost 70 years to be with a gay piano player. She’s moved to L.A. and since she’s been gone her friends in New York have seen little of Liza.”
Rumors Suggest It Runs In The Family
Minnelli’s famous mother and iconic star of Wizard of Oz, Judy Garland was also said to have had a penchant for gay men. It was also rumored that Garland discovered Liza’s father Vincente having a homosexual affair in a similar way to Minnelli and Allen. In addition to this, Garland’s father Frank Gumm (Minnelli’s grandfather) was also rumored to have been caught in a homosexual scandal in a theatre.
If you are to believe all of these rumors that makes it three generations of women in this family who were said to have been married to gay husbands.
Minnelli is of course famous in her own right for singing and acting performances including Cabaret, Arthur, and, more recently, in the comedy series Arrested Development as Lucille 2.
