The Republican National Committee, RNC, has come clean after getting caught sending payments to a relatively unknown firm started by ex-CIA officer, Ben Wickham. Initially the RNC claimed that the firm was building security at it’s Capitol Hill headquarters but it turns out that is not true at all.
Hamilton Trading Group, a firm with known Russian ties, was paid $41,500 over the course of the campaign, $34,100 of it going towards intelligence reports attempting to connect Hillary Clinton with any conflicts during her time as Secretary of State. Wickham stated that initially his work was tied to building security, something he declined to talk about but after the RNC came forward it was found that only a little of seven grand was towards this purpose. Wickham told Politico:
I’m not denying that I wasn’t totally forthcoming, but I’m telling you why. The security stuff that we did, which is legitimate, was not covered by any kind of a confidentiality agreement, so I can discuss that.
When the first $3,400 of the money was first reported it was instantly flagged by intelligence, political operatives, and security experts due to the company’s low profile and former Russian ties. Wickham denies doing any work connected with Russia as well as replied that he has not met Trump or Manafort.
