In the last decade, the number of dog attacks has increased by 76 percent. A Navy SEAL reveals some great tips to protect yourself if you are in this situation. Above all, protect yourself however you can.
1. Guard Yourself
Do everything you can to protect yourself if a dog is trying to attack you. Give the dog whatever it is after, even if it is your purse or jacket. Give the dog something to go after.
2. Take Your Shirt Off
If the dog grabs at your shirt, take it off. Wrap your shirt around your arm to protect it. Give the dog your forearm instead of your upper arm because there are veins in there.
3. Punch It In The Nose And Muzzle
If you punch, punch it in the nose. Go for big movements to distract it.
4. The Ribcage Is Also Sensitive
The ribcage area behind the dog’s front legs is sensitive as well. Punch or grab there if possible.
5. Assert Your Dominance
You need to convince the dog that you are the alpha. You are in charge. Try to dominate yourself over the animal. Dogs are pack animals. They will respond to whoever is in charge.
