Some Marines allegedly leaked nude pictures of their female colleagues in a Facebook group for Marines, Marines United, which has over 30,000 members. The person responsible has since been discharged.
The pictures were shared in Google Drive folders and shared within the group. A statement from the US Marine Corps said in part:
“The Marine Corps is deeply concerned about allegations regarding the derogatory online comments and sharing of salacious photographs in a closed website. This behavior destroys morale, erodes trust, and degrades the individual. The Marine Corps does not condone this sort of behavior, which undermines our core values.”
The shared folders have since been removed.
Marine Lance Cpl. Marisa Woytek, who had pictures from her Instagram stolen for this sick group, said this:
“Even if I could, I’m never reenlisting. Being sexually harassed online ruined the Marine Corps for me, and the experience.”
Rep. Adam Smith (Wash.), the ranking Democrat on the House Armed Services Committee, said this about it:
“This behavior by Marines and former Marines is degrading, dangerous, and completely unacceptable. The military men and women who proudly volunteer to serve their country should not have to deal with this kind of reprehensible conduct.”
These brave women do not deserve this bullshit. We should respect them and the work they do protecting our country.
