An astronaut on the International Space Station (ISS) filmed some rare blue lightning from outside of the station.
European Space Agency (ESA) astronaut Andreas Mogensen, who filmed it, said:
“It is not every day that you get to capture a new weather phenomenon on film, so I am very pleased with the result.”
This blue lightning came from a thunderstorm over India. It is a rare phenomenon that we don’t see often. Mogensen said that the researchers have never seen the blue lightning shoot up quite like this.
This particular phenomenon was discovered in 1995 when they were seen from a storm over Arkansas.
