Valentine’s Day is coming up, everyone. If you are planning to stay in for “Netflix and chill,” here are some great, romantic movies for your evening. I’m including romantic comedies and dramas that I have seen personally.
1. The Princess Bride
This 1980s cult classic is a great, witty love story to make your Valentine’s Day. Yes, it is made for kids, but it is a favorite for us millennials. It follows the story of a grandfather reading a fairy tale to his grandson. The fairy tale follows the love story of a princess and daring rescues and witty lines.
2. How To Lose A Guy In Ten Days
This is a bit of a hokey one, but it’s a cute romantic comedy. It follows a columnist who is trying to get rid of a guy she’s dating within 10 days. She gets pretty creative with ways to get him to break up with her.
This is a cute, quirky romantic comedy. It follows a man travelling to put his father to rest, and he gets re-routed by love along the way. It’s a relatable, sweet comedy. You will laugh, then you will cry.
4. 10 Things I Hate About You
This 1990s classic features Julia Stiles, Heath Ledger, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and more. It is a modernized version of the Shakespeare play, The Taming of the Shrew. You will laugh and cry and get nostalgic.
5. Chasing Amy
This is not your conventional romantic comedy. This 1990s classic comes from the mind of Kevin Smith, who wrote Clerks, Dogma, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, and more. It follows a man who falls for a woman who happens to be gay.
6. While You Were Sleeping
Yes, this is a Christmas movie, but it can do double duty. This cute 1990s classic follows a woman who saves a man’s life, but he ends up in a coma. She gets mistaken for his fiancee, and she doesn’t correct his family.
7. Grosse Point Blank
This is a dark romantic comedy, but it is a classic. An assassin comes back to his hometown to catch a target just in time for his high school reunion. He hooks back up with an old flame as well.
The first movie in this epic saga is now streaming on Netflix. Yes, you may not like it, but many girls do. It follows the story of a teen who falls in love with a vampire.
You may roll your eyes, but this classic romantic musical would make for a great Valentine’s Day. It follows the romance between two teens in the 1950s. It has become a classic over the decades.
10. Love Actually
This is also a Christmas movie, but it is amazing to watch anytime. There are so many classic moments and so many celebrities. It will make you laugh and cry.
