It has been discussed in the past that those that use profanity on a daily basis often have higher IQ’s and a better handle on their language, but it is now found that they just might be the more honest ones in the bunch.

A study performed by researchers from Maastricht University, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Stanford, and the University of Cambridge showed that people that swear a lot have a higher level of integrity. These researchers studied 276 people and over 70,000 Facebook profiles, scanning for the use of profanity and honesty together and came to their results.

In all accounts the researchers found a positive connection between the use of profanity and the level of honesty a person shows. It seems in many cases, people use curse words to show how they really feel. Researchers stated in the findings:

“Profanity is often used to express one’s unfiltered feelings (e.g. anger, frustration) and sincerity.”

Other studies have lead us to believe that cursing can lift ones mood and often these words are preferred when expressing an emotion. Now, we aren’t saying go cuss up and down the isles of your church or local preschool but maybe you should think of letting out a shit or fuck every once in a while.

See, we already feel better.
