It’s not often that a cat defeats a politician, but this is precisely the case for one furry library aide in White Settlement, Texas.
Browser, the gray beauty, was adopted when he was just a kitten by the White Settlement Public Library as a cheaper method of pest control but it wasn’t long before he became a mascot and reading helper to the local children.
Then, without warning, the evil sorcerer, Councilman Elzie Clements, who, after hearing about a city worker being denied the right to bring his dog to work, called for the immediate dismissal of Browser.
People all over the country caught wind of the story and began writing and posting to the City Council demanding that Browser be allowed to stay strong on his post. After the Council had taken the issue up, Browser’s place was made secure but Councilman Clements, unknowingly at the time, cemented his own demise.
This November’s elections made certain that Clements was defeated in a landslide. It seems that there were a few angry votes cast in his feline hating direction.
Mayor Ron White titled Browser a “Library Cat For Life,” and stated:
“Browser is still employed and will be as long as he wishes to continue his duties as mascot and reading helper for the children at the library.”
